Charity Challenge Kilimanjaro – Getting ready to go
We woke up this morning to some very happy smiley faces from the 2014 Peak Potential Adventures Kilimanjaro Charity Challenge crew from their Moshi hotel in Tanzania. You can actually see Mt Kilimanjaro doing a photo bomb in the background, how beautiful is that sight. The team had indicated that they had seen Mt Kilimanjaro last night on their approach into Kilimanjaro airport. Its so hard to explain the feeling when you see Mt Kilimanjaro for the first time, its a pretty intimidation sight being the highest freestanding mountain in the world. It looks like they have an awesome view of the beautiful Kibo this morning, so I am sure there will be some mixed emotions. To be climbing it is a personal challenge is one thing, but to be climbing it as a charity challenge in support of Make-A-Wish Australia makes it even more special for the team. Sometimes when you are having tough day on the mountain, thinking about the children who you are climbing for who may never have this opportunity can give you that extra strength when you need it.
Its just after midnight in Moshi, Tanzania, so in around 8 hours, the team will be making their way out to the entry point of the Machame Route of Mt Kilimanjaro to start their climb up to the first camp, which is the Machame Camp. It is so nice to see their happy smiley faces and they are obviously in high spirits after their long journey from Australia.
The team would also be very happy as they have raised just under $33,000 for Make-A-Wish Australia for this Kilimanjaro Charity Challenge. Make-A-Wish Australia are an amazing charity who helps grants the wishes of sick and critically ill children.
