HEATONS LOOKOUT – HEATONS STATE FOREST

ABOUT THE WALK
Heaton Lookout walk starts at Watagan Forest Motel and ends at Heatons Lookout, which has panoramic views of the Central Coast. You will then return back to the start the same way This fantastic training walk features a fairly steep climb at the start but flattens out at the top of the hill when the walking track meets Heaton Road. Heatons Road then leads to the lookout which is around a 3km walk on a dirt road. It is an easy walk to get to and has plenty of parking. If you have upcoming adventures with us, like the Three Capes Track, Six Foot Track, Overland Track, and Everest Base Camp, this is an excellent opportunity for some training and to catch up to discuss equipment and perhaps even meet some others on the team.
This is a free community walk, but registration is required to avoid excess numbers
DATE: Saturday, 14th of January 2023
MEETING TIME: 8:00 AM
MEETING PLACE: Watagan Forest Motel/Caltex Service Station – 1549 Leggetts Drive, Brunkerville
DISTANCE: 9.6 km return
DIFFICULTY: Grade 5, so there will be some uneven ground and steep sections
FITNESS LEVEL: Moderate to high fitness
EXPERIENCE: Beginner, but some previous bushwalking experience is recommended
APPROX TIME: 4-5 hours which includes stops
WHAT TO BRING: Daypack, hat, sunscreen, 2 litres of drinking water, snacks, raincoat, some warm clothing for stops and sturdy walking shoes

There are toilets at Heatons Lookout

ABOUT THE WALK
Piles Creek Loop is a walk in the Brisbane Water National Park located a Somersby on the Central Coast. The Piles Creek walk has beautiful features and landscapes like waterfalls, eucalypt forests and a suspension bridge and starts and finishes at the Girrakool picnic area. If you have upcoming adventures with us, like the Three Capes Track, Six Foot Track, Overland Track, and Everest Base Camp, this is an excellent opportunity for some training and to catch up to discuss equipment and perhaps even meet some others on the team.

MEETING TIME: 8:00 AM
MEETING PLACE: The carpark at Girrakool picnic area (Brisbane Water National Park). There is an $8 park entry fee per car and the machine takes both coins and card

DIFFICULTY: Grade 5, so there will be some uneven ground and steep sections
FITNESS LEVEL: Moderate to medium fitness
EXPERIENCE: Beginner, but some previous bushwalking experience is recommended
